Would you like to be part of the Melba Centennial Celebration? There are lots of opportunities to help. You could volunteer to work on any of the planned events, help with the centennial float planned for the 4th of July parade, contact your friends and neighbors so they don’t miss the weekend, donate some funds to support the party. Contact Noni Stapleton at Melba City Hall, 495-2722, for details.
We are also looking for items to display. If you have a quilt you would like to show or antiques that would be fun to share, please contact Jane Zeyer at 495-2241.
As a Centennial Celebration Committee we’ve been hard at work trying to prepare a joyful celebration for all of our community to mark this 100-year milestone.
The culmination of our celebration is focused on our Saturday night banquet, which will take place on the evening of August 18.
The question that lingered for us was, “Who will we get to speak at such an event?” Names of politicians and mayors were suggested, but in the end we felt that the best way to celebrate the community of Melba was for the community itself to speak.
With this in mind we are asking the community of Melba to submit in writing your creative thoughts and writings on why you love and are a part of Melba.
You can write an essay, a poem, in story form or any manner that you would like.
We ask that you submit your contribution along with your name, age, and years lived in Melba to firstname.lastname@example.org or to the City Clerk at the Melba City Hall.
The committee will then work to select several of the contributions to be read by the author at the banquet along with the school essay contest winner, McKenna Draper.
This invitation is open to all ages, so please encourage your young ones to contribute as well. We look forward with excitement to reading your responses.
