Reed Students Light Up the Town

Sixth grade students of Reed Elementary School implemented the first annual Operation Decoration, a community service project aimed at decorating Main Street in Kuna for the holiday season each year.

The initiative for the project, which took place on Tuesday, Dec. 4, came from the Reed sixth graders themselves, who began planning last year after drawing inspiration from holiday light displays in surrounding cities. The students wanted to bring that holiday spirit to Kuna, and help to build a greater sense of community pride.

Under the guidance of Reed’s sixth grade teachers Wava Kaufman, Sari Stewart and Jake Dobson, the students enlisted local businesses to help with the cost of decorations and supplies.

The sixth grade teachers hope to make Operation Decoration an annual community service project that grows bigger and better each year.
