Melba high school wrestlers sent seven wrestlers to Homedale for a dual on Tuesday, Jan. 15.
Melba matched up six wrestlers head-to-head in varsity duals, forfeiting in 98, 106, 120, 126, 132, 160, 170, 220 and 285 weight classes giving up 6 points per match.
Melba’s Cody Svedin was pinned by Homedale’s Tyler Hardy at 113, Melba senior Jesse Blount won by decision against john Collett at 138 (11-4), Melba Senior Jared Johnshoy got a technical win over Rusty Vance at 145 (19-4), Homedale’s Dylan Sharp pinned Jose Vargas of Melba at 152, Melba senior Troy Richardson pinned Colton Grimm at 182 and Homedale’s Brad McCain pinned Fabian Medrano at 195.
The meet was originally scheduled as a tri-dual with Homedale, Vale and Melba but turned out to be dual with just Homedale and Melba.
Homedale won the team dual 72-14.
Although the head to head matched didn’t go as well as planned for all the wrestlers, the exhibition matches brought several more wins for the wrestlers.
Exhibition match scores are not counted toward the overall team score however.
(120) Cody Svedin (M) pinned Michael DeLeon (H); (138) Levi Perry (M) pinned Coty Ford (H); (138) Levi Perry (M) won by decision against John Collett (H); (145) Jessie Blount (M) pinned Dylan Sharp (H); (145) Jared Johnshoy (M) took another technical win against Michael Crumrine (H); (152) Tyson Furlott (H) pinned Jose Vargas (M); (182) Troy Richardson (M) pinned Curtis Stansell (H); (220) Fabian Medrano (M) pinned Manny Macias (H).
Last weekend, on Friday and Saturday, Melba sent one wrestler, Troy Richardson, to the McCall Mile High Tournament.
Richardson won five matches at McCall Tournament.
Melba placed seventh of eight teams.
Richardson recorded four more pins and one decision victory to win the 182 lb. group.
Melba senior Riley Crossley has accomplished 104 high school career wins this season.
Meeting that mark is a very prestigious accomplishment for a wrestler.
