Kuna Grange hosted the 16th annual FFA Public Speaking Contest January 24 at the Grange hall. The FFA Chapters from Kuna, Meridian and Melba were invited to send contestants to compete in Prepared and Extemporaneous Speech contests.
Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Don Johnson of Kuna Grange. Judges for the evening were Dan Sample, Darrell Hatfield, and Joe Stear. Nine members from the Kuna and Meridian FFA Chapters competed in the Prepared and Extemporaneous Speech contests. Winners in the Prepared Speech Contest were 1st Macy Hagler, Kuna; 2nd Amanda Reynolds, Kuna; and 3rd Dustin Zabel, Kuna. In the Extemporaneous Speech Contest, winners were: 1st Janine Johnson, Meridian; 2nd Max Blitman, Kuna; and 3rd Abigail Talbert, Meridian. Prizes for each category were 1st place $25; 2nd place $15; and 3rd place $10.
About 30 guests were present to listen to the interesting speeches during the evening. Some of the topics covered were Trade Agreements; Grazing; Agriculture In a Changing World; Technology in Agriculture; and Educating the Consumer about GMO’s.
