Melba girl’s varsity started the week in a strong game against McCall at McCall on Tuesday Jan. 22 and brought home a big win of 53 to 34.
Eight of the eleven girls put points on the board for Melba.
Sierra Manzer with 12, Dani Romans led with 16, Anysja Manzer with seven, Kara Leavitt added five, Bailey Helm put up and extra four points, Randee Schlapia with three, Suzi Stirm and Nicole Hoagland put two each on the board.
Thursday brought Parma to Melba and a loss for Melba to end on, but not by much with 23 to 26.
The game may have been low scoring but not uneventful.
Twice the ball got wedged one way or another around the net or backboard.
The girls hustled back and forth with many turnovers but just couldn’t get those last few points to win the game.
Melba plays McCall on Thursday at home in the first round of the district tournament.
If the win in Tuesday is any indication, Melba could start with a win.
