Girls on the Run Idaho are seeking volunteer coaches to run its Girls on the Run spring program at Ross Elementary and Teed Elementary in Kuna. The programs will be offered two days a week from March 4th to May 17th. The group at Ross Elementary will meet from 2:55 pm-4:10 pm and the group at Teed Elementary will meet from 4:00-5:15 pm.
Girls on the Run are a program for girls in the 3rd-5th grades, which combine physical activity, adult mentors, and a curriculum that has been proven to improve participants’ self-esteem and body image. Each site meets twice a week for 75 minutes during the ten-week program.
Our goal is to empower all girls to:
• Have a strong sense of identity
• Give and receive support from a group
• Stand up for themselves in a healthy manner
• Have a healthy body image
• Understand the importance of their community
• Complete a 5k run/walk event
Coaches do not have to be runners themselves; the only requirement is that they be healthy role models that are enthusiastic and committed to the healthy development of preteen girls. Male and female coaches are welcome. Coaches attend a one-time training on February 16th and are provided with detailed lesson plans, CPR certification, and the necessary supplies and snacks for each meeting. Each site has 2-3 coaches for every 20 girls.
