The Kuna Kavemen Varsity Baseball season is off to a great start. After four games they are 4-0 with wins over Mountain Home, Middleton, Nampa, and Caldwell. Thursday evening the Nampa Bulldogs almost gave the Kavemen their first lost but the Kavemen dug deep and pulled out the win. The score was 11 to 4 at the top of the sixth inning. It looked as if the game was over but Jeffers Erickson started a rally that would end with Kuna on top by one run. The Kavemen then held the Bulldogs for the next two at bats to win the game 12 to 11.
On Friday the Kavemen won a low scoring game against the Caldwell Cougars. It was a pitching duel between Caldwell’s Laren Walker and Kuna’s Hayden Stauffer. Walker had nine strike-outs and Stauffer had five strike outs in five innings. Kuna scored in the first with a single by Jake Coburn who was hit in by Colton Lawrence and would not score again until the sixth. Caldwell scored two in the fifth when Daren Sawyer hit an RBI double and was then hit in by Laren Walker. This left the Kavemen down by one. In the bottom of the sixth with two outs, Landon Croft ripped a timely double which scored the tying run. Matt McLean later scored the go ahead run on a passed ball and Kuna held the lead in the top of the seventh to get the 3-2 win. – submitted by Tammy McLean
