One has to wonder how anti-gun the Democratic Party actually is. When Obama was elected to his first term the NRA and other groups warned that it was the end of the Second Amendment in America. Radical voices were raised in unison that we were going to go back to the ridiculous Clinton weapons ban. It didn’t happen.
What did happen? The greatest rush to buy firearms we have seen in recent years. Many firearms and the ammunition for them were sold out in weeks. It took two or three years for ammunition manufacturers to catch up the backorders created by the sudden demand for ammunition of nearly all types. Finally, the uproar died down, somewhat.
We got back to a more even keel. Firearms and ammunition prices never got back to a level they were before the election, but at least most guns and ammunition became available for purchase, once again.
Then we had some crazies go out and commit atrocious acts of mass murder; most notably, the Newtown, Connecticut massacre. Of course, at the same time, in other areas and other countries similar incidents occurred using bombs, knives, and other weapons. However, that did nothing to further the fight toward eliminating guns, so they were not nearly as prominent in the news coverage.
In a knee-jerk reaction, nearly the entire Left-Wing began crying for gun legislation. Little did they realize that mass murder is already against the law, I guess. Somehow, honest, law-abiding gun owners were responsible for murdering the children of Newtown. How that is logical is beyond me. The perpetrators of these crimes do not abide by laws. More gun crimes happen in Chicago and New York, where gun ownership is essentially outlawed, than in other areas.
However, the debate continues. The cry goes out, “We have to do something!” Since guns are an easy target, let’s work on that issue. Everyone knows it makes no sense, whatsoever, to make it more difficult and expensive for honest citizens to own guns, as a solution to criminal behavior, but let’s do it so we can say, “At least we did something!”
In all the mass killings of innocent children by drunk drivers, never once have we added restrictions to automobile ownership. Never have we implemented a national data base to ensure that honest, law-abiding car owners would be further burdened with costs and restrictions to eliminate drunk drivers. Why would we?
However, again, the reaction has been the massive purchase of guns and ammunition by the honest public. Thousands of people are rushing to buy guns and ammunition that might possibly be banned by a new illogical gun law. Gun and ammunition manufacturers must love the Democratic Party!
Just when we are lamenting the fact that Winchester is essentially no more. Just as we cry about the fact that Glock cannot import their .380 handguns due to restrictions on imports. Meanwhile, Remington is buying up small companies by the truckload. Gun manufacturing corporations and ammunition manufacturing corporations are growing leaps and bounds. If there is one area where no one can argue that Obama has increased profits and job opportunities it is the firearms industry. Go Obama!
