On Saturday, May 18 at 2:32 p.m. a fire was reported on private land somewhere close to West Green Lane and the dead end of West Kuna Mora Road southwest of Kuna.
Responding to the fire were eight fire districts including Kuna, Meridian, Boise, Eagle, Star, Nampa, Melba and Deer Flat according to Kuna Fire Chief Stephen Rinaldi. The fire initially threatened structures but quickly moved on to Bureau of Land Management land.
No structures or residences were damaged but according to Kuna Fire Chief there were some reports of damage to items on
According to BLM’s Information Officer Mallory Eils, three BLM engines and a water tender truck were involved from the bureau. The majority of the fire was on BLM land and was estimated to be about 365 acres. The Kuna Butte Fire was finally contained around 10 p.m. All federal land fires are named based on the location of the fire.
Fire Chief Rinaldi said that local fire departments were off the fire by about 7 p.m.
Fire investigators from BLM have not determined the cause of the fire as of press time.
