The 2012-2013 school year has been one of the most successful in Kuna History for Kuna Gold. The year began with a new direction in the marching band program. Under new leadership, the Kuna Gold Marching Band and Color Guard competed in three local competitions and one at Idaho State University. In the final marching band competition of the year, against other bands in southwest Idaho, Kuna scored 6th overall, beating out 24 other schools and took first in their division for visual effects. In December, the marching band and color guard performed at The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl at Bronco Stadium, becoming the first high school band program to be invited to do so.

In March, the Kuna Gold Orchestra competed at the District 3 String Festival where they scored “Excellent.” The Kuna Gold Wind Ensemble also scored “Excellent” at their festival in April. Over spring break, band, orchestra and color guard students and parents traveled to Disneyland where they participated in a music clinic led by Disney music studios. Students got to experience first hand what it takes to make music for Disney movies. Additionally, the marching band led off the “Celebration of Music” parade.

This year also saw the return of 6th grade beginning band to Kuna elementary schools. In March, a mass concert was held at KHS highlighting each 6th grade program, the middle school and high school programs. At this concert $500 was raised in one minute. That money was split between the elementary and middle school programs.

The Kuna Gold received invitations this year to perform at the 2014 Holiday or Gator Bowl, The 2015 Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC and 2013 Presidential Inaugural Concert.

The Kuna Gold Parent and Community Organization thanks all of Kuna for its support this year. It is the organization’s goal to give every student in Kuna access to a quality music education.
