Melba’s annual Mr. Mustang Competition is held each year to celebrate the senior boys’ talents and individualism. This year’s 12 contestants competed against each other in talent, interview and formal wear. Expression of talents ranged from magic to wrestling moves. Senior Forrest Price demonstrated his sword-wielding skills. The seniors drew questions from a hat to answer, which seemed a bit rigged, with silly distractions in abundance as an occasional boy would sift through to find the right one to answer. Joaquin Alvarez was asked what he would do with a million dollars and, with a grin, his response was “I would give it to all of you for coming out tonight.” Judges Mrs. Jennifer Capps, Mrs. Heidi Friend and Ms. Bailey Helm scored the performances and ultimately named the winners.
Mr. Looks Good in a Tux went to D.J. Todd, Mr. Personality was Kayden Davies, Second Runner Up was Troy Richardson, First Runner Up went to T. Archuleta, and Mr. Mustang was announced as Joaquin Alvarez. But with a twist, Joaquin refused the title and announced “Forrest Price has been working harder than anyone. He is Mr. Mustang.” Joaquin then passed the crown on to senior Forrest Price. Forrest proudly accepted and was crowned as Mr. Mustang 2013.
