Doug and Ruth Parsons, of Melba, were in Tucson, Arizona, earlier this year, when they first heard the sounds of the Blackwood Legacy Quartet. “I have never heard anything so rousing and foot stomping before,” said Doug Parsons of Melba. Towards the end of the concert, a giving tray was sent around and Parsons also put in a card from the Melba Photo courtesy of Urban Gal Photography Community Baptist Church, his church, and wrote on the back “If you are ever near Melba, give us a call.”
To his surprise, they did call and made a date to come to Melba and perform. The Blackwood Legacy Quartet, direct from Nashville, will be presenting a special concert event in our community on Saturday, June 15 at 7 p.m. at the Community Baptist church at the corner of Randolph and 4th in Melba. Admission is free and an offering will be received.
The Grammy-award winning Blackwood Legacy Quartet blends the best of Southern Gospel’s traditional sound with today’s newer Country gospel and worship music.
The groups’ thirteen-year-old ministry stems from that of the late Cecil Blackwood, and the singing tradition of the original Blackwood Brothers Quartet. According to their website, arguably the Blackwood Brothers Quartet are the most famous name in Gospel music history.
According to reports, the Blackwood Legacy Quartet’s lead singer Daniel Childs is the great grandson to Blackwood Brothers founding father, Roy Blackwood. Spokane native Luke Yates sings baritone with the group, and is also an award-winning pianist. Tenor singer Paul Secord, formerly a featured singer for Disney World, is one of the most talented in Gospel Music today. Group owner and bass singer, Rick Price, was originally a protégée of the late Cecil Blackwood. He began his 35-year career singing with the Blackwood Brothers in 1977, and was eventually inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame with the legendary group. Performing since 2001, The Blackwood Legacy Quartet was signed to Mansion Records in 2010, and continues the grand tradition of gospel music, performing nearly 250 dates annually nationwide.
According to theblackwoodlegacy.com, this Gospel quartet exists to proclaim the name of Jesus Christ through song and testimony, and to see people moved by the power of God’s healing Spirit. Placing ministry above all other priorities, this group performs nationally at churches both small and large, striving to be a blessing to people everywhere, according to their website.
