Aubrey Brinton will be getting on a plane in late June and heading to China. As one of only 62 Idaho residents currently serving in the Peace Corps, she will join 146 other volunteers who currently work in China.
With a degree in multi-ethnic studies and a minor in Chinese from Boise State University she will spend her first three months living with a host family in China. She will then be assigned to a community in Western China where she will spend the next two years teaching English.
She encourages people to consider the Peace Corps. “People have a better chance of being accepted when signing up from Idaho,” she said. This is because the Peace Corps wants to diversify the representation from all across America.
Aubrey plans on pursuing a Masters degree in photojournalism upon her return in a few years.
Her parents are hosting a “Bon Voyage” Event from 5–8 p.m. on Saturday, June 22. They invite anyone who knows Aubrey to “pop by to bid her adieu.” 12368 W. Hidden Valley (Three Oaks Subdivision, between Columbia & Lake Hazel on Cloverdale).
Over the next two years KMN has asked Brinton to send us updates of her experiences in China. She will be submitting monthly reports and photographs. We are excited to follow her progress.
