In May, Melba Little League program wrapped up its first summer of soccer in Melba ever. The five week spring season was assisted by Sky View High School soccer coaches, Shawn Pelton as he donated pinnies and cones to start the program. Georgette Williams and Eric Forsgren of Melba were chairmen of the league. The league was more popular than expected and taught nearly 80 kids, kindergarten to sixth grade, skills to play the game. A team of volunteer coaches like Brandie Naragon, Christ Hinderliter, jack Richardson Jr., Georgette Williams, Eric Forsgren, Kenny Edwards and Suzanne Thacker coached eight teams in the maiden season. “The season was a huge success with about 80 kids playing and having a good time,” said volunteer Christina Forsgren.
Plans are in the works for a fall season in Melba. The league is in need of coaches and directors as it grows. Williams and Forsgren do not plan to chair the program in the fall and will pass the baton to the next set of directors for that season.
