The Melba City Council met on Monday, June 10,where outgoing Mayor Sturges recommended replacement mayoral candidates when he leaves office in July.
“Here is my two cents, you were my first choice and that was it,” Sturges said to Council President, Chris Hinderliter. ”There were a few others but you were always number one. I don’t think there is anyone in the community that I would rather have in this position.”
Councilman Parkie Stapleton also announced his preference in Hinderliter or previous mayor Martin Luttrell as the temporary mayor for the city to finish the term until the November elections.
Hinderliter said his only reservations about continuing and running for Mayor in the November election had to do with any possible conflicts from being both a Pastor and Mayor.
The official announcement of the choice for replacement will be presented at the July City Council meeting when Mayor Sturges resignation becomes effective. If a council member is moved into the mayor position, then it will then be up to the new appointed mayor to recommend a replacement for his seat on the council.
