Roger was born March 18, 1941 in Nampa, Idaho to Oscar and Annabell Dike Nelson. He attended Nampa schools and graduated in 1959, then continued on to Boise Junior College on a football scholarship. Most of his working years were spent in trucking – hauling cattle for Bruneau Sheep Co., logs for various Idaho companies, and pipe for the Alaska pipeline. He was most proud of the dog harness-backpack unit he designed and patented. About this time he met and married Carolyn Dowdle Durrant on December 12, 1990. Together they expanded their Dogs Togs line to included dog coats, dog sleeping bags and cat tipis.
Roger was an avid outdoorsman, backpacking and snowshoeing many miles through Idaho’s wilderness. He was also an accomplished race walker and runner having run Robie Creek nine years with his Golden Retriever, Dredge, by his side. Dogs were always an important part of his life and Roger will be greatly missed by his Golden Retrievers and Cocker Spaniel.
He was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a proud member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation.
After living many years in Boise, Roger and Carolyn moved to Melba in 2010 where they are members of the Melba Second Ward.
