In conjunction with the Railroad Safety Initiative, the city of Kuna is launching contests open to all children grades K-12 with big prizes. The contests kick off on October 12, 2013, in coordination with the Kuna Safety Day and the Mayor’s Bike and Skateboard competitions at Bernie Fisher Park.
Grades K-5 can enter a coloring contest. Posters are now available at City Hall and prizes for grades K-3 and for grades 4-5 will be a train set for first place, a $15 gift card to Wal-Mart for second, a $10 gift card to Wal-Mart.
Grades 6-8 will compete in a poster design or drawing contest to demonstrate or show railroad safety. Poster templates are now available at city hall. First through third prize are Wal-Mart gift cards for $75, $50 and $25.
Grades 9-12 will compete in an essay/story/article contest about railroad safety. Word count is 500 to 2,000 words. Prizes are Wal-Mart gift cards. First through third place will win $100, $75 and $50 and will be considered for publication in Kuna Melba News.
All contest entries are due at Kuna City Hall by November 18, 2013. The winners and their families will be invited to ride in the Operation Life Saver Train at the Kuna night light parade on December 14, 2013. All winners will receive their awards from Mayor Greg Nelson at the December 17, 2013 city council meeting.
