Idaho Congressman Raul Labrador, formerly a Caldwell immigration lawyer, has turned his back yet again on those he once helped gain citizenship by refusing to work on immigration reform efforts. Yesterday, Labrador told the Idaho Statesman that he will not work towards a compromise on immigration reform. This comes after Labrador abandoned the bipartisan “gang of eight” back in June that was working towards a comprehensive immigration bill.
In a statement filled with vitriol and broken promises, Mr. Labrador wants us to believe our nation’s problems with Immigration Rights, Health Care, and Debt Ceilings can be solved by pointing fingers and refusing to work together to find a compromise.
Labrador’s campaign website claims that “honesty” and “integrity” are his foundational principles. What part of honesty is it to drag your feet and refuse to even discuss immigration reform? I am curious about how much integrity it takes to continue to work against reforms that would keep families together while suggesting that the United States deport any that are not here “legally”?
The system itself is broken, and we need to face the realities in front of us instead of running away from one of the most serious issues facing many families in the great state of Idaho. We need to stop instituting policies of profiling and instead understand the benefits of working with all who are here in America to solve its problems. Only together can we solve serious issues, and Raul Labrador needs to see he is now part of the problem, not part of the solution.
