Kuna to Stay 4A
The Idaho High School Activities Association accepted Kuna School District’s appeal last week and Kuna High School will remain in the 4A classification for the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school years.
Kuna had erred in reporting enrollment numbers in March and filed the appeal after the student count was 1.5 students over the limit for 5A. The IHSAA determines classification of schools for competition based on student enrollment numbers. The appeal was approved 9-7 by the committee of 4A superintendents from around the state and then approved unanimously by the IHSAA board of directors.
With Kuna remaining in 4A, District III will have six teams and 5A will have 12 teams. Over the next two school years, Kuna will play five league games and four non-league games in the season.
With Kuna’s growth, the next cycle will put Kuna over the limit to remain in 4A if the overall school classification system remains as is.
The 4A SIC conference that Kuna will face will include Bishop Kelly Knights, Caldwell Cougars, Middleton Vikings, Mountain Home Tigers and Skyview Hawks. Emmett will drop into the 3A category while the Nampa Bulldogs and Columbia Wildcats will move up to 5A.
