The Melba Mustangs, fresh off a big win over Nampa Christian lost to Cole Valley last Friday night. Cole Valley, the only undefeated team left in 2A football barely edged out Melba 17-14 in a hard fought game.
Cole Valley put points on the board in the first quarter followed by a second quarter Melba touchdown by Danny Talbot. The kick was no good and the teams went to halftime 14-6 after a Cole Valley 34-yard touchdown. Cole Valley managed to put up 3-points on a 28 yard field goal in the third. In the fourth, Melba made a run at it and managed to put 8 points up on a Talbut 1 yard run and extra two points on an Adam Saurey run.
Melba had 318 yards rushing. Chris Martinez rushed 2-4, Manny Medrano 20-99, Adam Saurey 19-115, Talbot 16-75 and Russel Laursen 6-25. Cole Valley put up only 82 yards rushing but manage to have 249 yards passing. Melba’s Talbot failed to connect on any passes.
Kuna Cross Country
The Kuna Cross Country team was in Twin Falls last Wednesday, with the boys’ team placing eighth out of 29 teams, and the girls’ team getting sixteenth out of 23 teams. Their next meet is right here in Kuna on Thursday October 10, and then on to the District Cross Country meet at Eagle Island State Park on Thursday, October 24th. The top five girls and boys times:

Melba cross country competed in the 2A WIC meet last week at New Plymouth. The girls team had all five scoring runners in the top eleven places. They took home the championship trophy beating second place McCall-Donnelly by 29 points. The boys finished fourth with some strong finishes by Rylan Manzer in second and Cody Svedin in eighth. The Mustangs are hosting this week’s meet on Thursday at Celebration Park.

Kuna defeated Emmett (25-17, 25-21, 25-12) on Tuesday, October 1 bringing their record to 7-1 for the season. Leading the team were Allie Schiewe 9 kills, 4 blocks; Michaelia Mills 8 kills, 10 digs; Nikole Cook 28 assists, 6 blocks, 5 digs.
