Heinz Peter Goerrich died on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at his home in Kuna, Idaho following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Peter was born in Hamburg, West Germany to Heinrich and Gerda Goerrich on April 11, 1941. His first years were spent in Holland where his father, a captain in the German Army in charge of food distribution, was stationed.
After Peter finished his schooling in Hamburg, he worked in the mathematics department of Deutsche Ring, a large life insurance company. In 1968, he met Marilyn Kindler while she was playing with the Hamburg Symphony and they returned to her hometown of Portland, Oregon to be married on August 8, 1970. They eventually settled in Portland, where Peter worked for North Pacific Insurance Company as a multi-lines insurance underwriter and continued on with this company through its many mergers until his retirement in 2003. The couple transferred to Spokane, Washington in 1976 where Peter was very proud to become an American citizen and then later where their twin daughters Donna and Dana were born in 1985.
Peter studied and received his CIC designation in l995 after he transferred to the Boise branch where he stayed until his retirement and lived in Kuna for the remainder of his life.
Growing up in Germany, he was an avid soccer fan and he enjoyed spending time as a referee for youth soccer in Spokane, WA in the 80′s. Through the years his focus turned to football, where he was a fanatic supporter of his favorite team, the Boise State Broncos.
He is survived by his wonderful family to which he was a loving and devoted father and grandfather to his twin daughters Donna Johnston-Goerrich and Dana Goerrich, and his grandchildren Briahannah Johnston (age 7), Evelyn Johnston (age 6), James Goerrich (age 3) and Daisy Goerrich (age 3), all of Kuna, ID, upon whom he doted. He is also survived by his ex-wife Marilyn Elmore, with whom he has maintained a close relationship.
His services will be held at Ten Mile Community Church on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., reception to follow. He will be interred at the Kuna Cemetery.
