Gerald E. “Doc” Tomlinson, 68, of Melba, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 3, 2013. He was born in Nampa on February 10, 1945, the only child of Floyd T. and Julia Lockert Tomlinson, and raised on the family farm in Melba. Doc attended grade school at Melmont, Glendale, and Melba, graduating from Melba High School in 1963. He attended college at Arizona State University and Boise Junior College before enlisting in the U.S. Army, during which time he was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas and in Frankfurt, Germany.
Doc married Mary Patricia Stearns on June 14, 1969 in Nampa, Idaho. He worked for Richardson Feedlot, the Idaho State Brand Department, and Armour & Co,. as well as independently as a cattle buyer. He then farmed with his folks for many years until retirement.
For several years, Doc thoroughly enjoyed and looked forward to annual trips to Maui with Mary Pat. He was an active member of Melba American Legion Post No. 126.
Doc is survived by his wife, Mary Pat; son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Stephanie, of Melba; and four grandchildren, Bryan, Megan, Brandon, and Brayden. Additionally, he is survived by his cousins, Christine Hankins of Bonanza, OR and Jeanette (Robert) Grove of Vale, OR; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rod (Sherry) Stearns of Nampa and Cheryl (Don) Day of Boise; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel on Monday, December 9 at 10:00 a.m. The family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Dee as well as Mo, Tammy, Debby and the rest of the staff of Legacy Hospice for their care of him and his family during his final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Doc’s name to Robie’s Got Faith, Inc. (131 North Kings Road, Nampa, Idaho 83687), which benefits one child at a time in his or her fight against cancer.
