Last week several Kuna and Ada County residents received letters from Briggs Engineering, Inc., inviting them to a neighborhood meeting to discuss an application for a conditional use permit for a cemetery, chapel and future mosque to be located at 15000 Cloverdale Road. This location, mostly sagebrush and scrub acreage that borders Kuna City Limits with few nearby neighbors, is located between Kuna Mora Road and King Road just off West Blacks Lane.
In the letter it said that they will discuss plans at a Wednesday evening meeting for development of the property and they will answer any questions people may have.
Locating mosques and Islamic centers have sometimes been contentious in rural areas over the last decade according to many news reports.
Imam Midhat Smajic with the Islamic Center said that this is an informational meeting to let people know what the plans are.
“This is the first step,” he said. He then added that the meeting is, “for the neighbors and those who are concerned.”
The proposed property is located in Ada County and the Ada County Planning and Zoning Division will be managing the approval process.
