The Kuna City Council and Mayor Greg Nelson met with the Ada County Highway District and the Ada County Commissioners on January 24, 2014 to review not only the proposed location for the Kuna overpass, but also upcoming construction projects in Kuna scheduled over the next few years.
This year, Kuna residents will see a new Southwest gateway project that will add pedestrian sidewalks and traffic improvements to Bridge Avenue from Main Street crossing the bridge to Avalon Street. With a budget of $400,000, this project is expected to be completed by the end of July in time for Kuna Days.
Project planning will start in 2014 for the Linder Road and Deer Flat intersection project. Beginning with surveys and public input this year it will be determined whether a roundabout or a traditional 4-way enlarged intersection will be best for the location. This $2 million project is expected to begin construction in 2017 or 2018.
In 2015 two projects are expected to begin construction. One adds sidewalks to N Avenue E and 4th street. Also expected to begin in 2015 is the Orchard Street pathway extension. This sidewalk and path will connect the Eastern portion of the greenbelt to the paths the city is constructing along Indian Creek. This project is pending Idaho Transportation Department approval and is budgeted at around $100,000.
Perhaps the largest project in the next few years for Kuna will be the Linder/Main/3rd Street Roundabout. This project adds a roundabout at the Eastern end of Main Street and will include two pedestrian crossings and new sidewalks along the baseball fields. Construction is expected to begin in 2016.
