According to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, a 25-year-old Boise man has been charged with third degree arson for setting his BMW on fire in the desert near Kuna last month.
Steven M. Carter turned himself in at the Ada County Jail on March 11. Ada County Sheriff’s deputies began their investigation around 2:30 a.m. Feb. 4 after finding the smoldering remains of a 2006 BMW 325I on a dirt access road near the intersection of Pleasant Valley and Thompson Roads.
The car was almost totally gutted by fire, but deputies were able to identify Carter as the owner.
With the help of Boise Police, deputies found Carter, who eventually admitted he drove the car out to the desert, poured gas on it, and set it on fire so he could get rid of it. At the time, Carter still owed a local bank over $20,000 for the car. The crime of third degree arson is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
And, Carter is still going to have to pay for the car.
