The Ada County Highway District – after learning of an employee purchasing a surplus ACHD Commuteride van at a public auction in clear and knowing violation of state law and District policy – took disciplinary action against that person last week.
The discipline occurred after consultation with the Idaho Attorney General’s Office, which may require the return of the vehicle and cancellation of the sale.
Idaho Statute 40-1309 forbids highway district employees from buying property sold by the District. At the Corbett Auction of February 15, 2014 in Kuna, an ACHD employee purchased a Commuteride van – despite the law, District policy and repeated verbal warnings against doing so. Other bidders had knowledge of the employee’s actions.
“Once we learned of the misconduct, an investigation was undertaken and appropriate disciplinary action applied,” said Bruce Wong, ACHD Director. “This conduct does not reflect how ACHD does business, as we expect the highest level of professionalism and ethical behavior from our employees.”
On February 28, 2014, ACHD assessed disciplinary action in the matter, but the details will not be further detailed because it remains a personnel matter.
