Thursday, March 18, the Kuna High School Cheeleading squad competed for their second state title in a row. “Hat-Tricking” for the third year in a row, they placed first in the Show Cheer category. In a second category, Kuna’s All Male Stunt Group also placed first, an unheard of win in state competition doing so with a male flyer.
“We are very proud that we won that specific category because they represent all male cheerleaders out there and by them winning,” said Jake Logue, a coach on the team. “It just shows that men can compete within the cheerleading world and still win.”
The 4A Stunt Group Champions consist of: Flyer Landon Pedersen, Base Tyler Hervey, Base Zech Villenueva, Back Spot Andrew White, and Front Spot Zane Alvarez.
Kuna Also took home a 3rd place Trophy for their Sideline Category but it wasn’t enough to secure the overall championship trophy. Kuna was barely beat by 15.5 points by Minico.
The Kuna team was invited to compete at the United Spirit Association’s High School Nationals in Anaheim California on Thursday March 27th. Kuna is competing in the Large CoEd Advanced Division at USA Nationals with 26 members consisting of 9 boys and 17 girls. There are 14 teams in Kuna’s division.
