Recently, a team of four Ada County 4-Hers traveled to Denver, CO, to attend the National Western Round-Up Livestock Judging competition. The Ada Co. team was made up of Christina Schram of Crafty Critters 4-H Club, Justin and Kristin Nesbitt of Crafty Critters 4-H club, and Johanna Kasper of Dry Lake Livestock 4-H Club.
This team qualified to this event by winning 2nd senior team at the Idaho State Livestock Judging competition in Blackfoot last fall. Because the 1st place team had already attended the National event, the Ada Co. team was able to represent Idaho at the National level. Once they arrived at Denver, the team toured Colorado State University Campus, specifically looking at the Ag and Engineering buildings and meeting with some advisors. Once at the competition, the team judged 12 classes that consisted of breeding and market beef, breeding and market swine, breeding and market sheep and a class of Boer goats. They presented oral reasons on six of the classes, describing why they had placed the class the way they did. The morning after the competition was the awards banquet. Kristin Nesbitt placed first in Boer doe judging and the team placed 14th overall. Congratulations to all team members for their success in Denver and their hard work in preparing for this event.
