Treasure Valley Lodge 11 Fraternal Order of Police has endorsed Judge Richard Greenwood in one of the two the contested races for District Judge. In announcing the endorsement, FOP President Mark Furness said, “We are happy to endorse Judge Greenwood. He understands the importance of keeping community safety in the forefront of his sentencing decisions. There have been recent changes made to the
sentencing laws. Judge Greenwood understands the changes and recognizes the need for them to be implemented in a fashion that benefits the community. It is important to the FOP to have judges such as Greenwood working with our law enforcement and prosecutors. ”
Judge Greenwood extended his thanks to the FOP and acknowledged his appreciation for their endorsement. “For nearly 100 years the FOP has worked at increasing the public confidence toward the police to the benefit of the peace, as well as the public. I am honored this fine organization supports my re-election.”
Judge Greenwood grew up living and working on a ranch in western North Dakota. He earned his law degree from the University of North Dakota, graduating number one in his class. Before he was appointed to the bench in 2008, Greenwood was a successful Idaho attorney for over 31 years. He was honored by the Idaho State Bar with the “Denise O’ Donnell Day Pro Bono Award” for his generous service and donation of time to help clients who are unable to pay for services. Judge Greenwood was awarded the Idaho State Bar “Professionalism Award” which recognizes an Idaho attorney who has engaged in remarkable activity in his community and the profession. He presides over a Drug Court as well as his regular caseload. In addition to his work, Judge Greenwood enjoys spending time golfing and being with his family. He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Jan, for 41 years. Together, they like spending time with their three children and eight grandchildren.
