Isn’t this a great time to be living in the Melba Valley? Spring is such a great season of renewal – the fields are being worked with the beautiful brown soil turned over, or they are turning green with winter wheat coming up. The lawns are greening up, the trees are starting to bloom, and a few brave flowers are in bloom. Then there are also the car heaters we turn off – then back on, the windows up – then down, the jackets on and off. And this is just the first few hours of the day! The joys of living in Idaho in the spring! Who would trade it? Not me! I have lived in several other states and keep coming back home.
Things have been on the quiet side at the center the past week, with the exception of last Thursday morning. Our regular cook, Lindy Maynard, wasn’t feeling well so several of us donned gloves and attempted to prepare the planned meal. We got it completed, edible and on time, under assistant Sue Moyer, with help from Marty Nelson, Sue Farner, Kathy Skelton, and myself. We all voted that Lindy can’t have any more sick days!
We are gearing up for the next food pantry on Saturday, April 12, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Spread the word. We know there are more in the community who could benefit from this service.
May 3, the annual Melba Fun Run with all the cool cars, chicken dinner ($8), and fun raffle items, will be here before we know it. Make sure to save the date on your calendar and join us at the center for a fun day. Last year there were at least 80 cars in the park next to the center. Lots of work has gone into these cars so come on out and see them – and help our senior center in the process.
Birthdays this past week were: March 30, Ted Bracke and March 31, Tina McCormack. On April 5 birthday wishes go to June McCoy, who will be 93 years young.
