It was just a few weeks ago I commented about it being quiet around the center. Well, not so much now! We’re busy, busy, busy for the next few weeks.
We had a nice treat last Thursday. In addition to Bill Kolasch doing our regular music, Earl Hughes played along with Bill. Earl has earned the title of Alaska’s and Hawaii’s ‘Ambassador of Country Music’ and has an impressive list of credits to his name. He has played for our troops several times as they have left his home state of Alaska to serve in the Middle East and has written a song titled ‘Operation Desert Shield’. We enjoyed his music and want to thank him for coming and also thank Bill for being a good sport and allowing Earl to join his ‘solo’ act without any notice. You guys were great!
We had a good turnout at our Clean Up Melba breakfast. We estimate we served fresh cinnamon rolls, fruit, and drinks to about 50 hungry people before they went out to clean up the town. Great work, guys! And thanks to those great ladies who helped in the kitchen and baked the rolls for all to enjoy!
This Saturday, May 3, will be the 20th annual Melba Fun Run car show and chicken dinner. There will also be many prizes raffled and drawn for, including the Ruger 22 rifle. These participants have brought thousands of dollars to our center over the years as they have enjoyed a day of fun. We are very grateful to them for what they do for our center and our community. We would have a tough time surviving without help from groups and functions like these. And it’s not too late to purchase raffle tickets from the center, so give us a call and don’t miss out on a chance to win. By the time you read this, you’ll only have a couple days to get them!
Happy Birthday goes out to Delores Ihli, May 3; Dave Tomlinson, May 5; and Leland Neville, May 9.
May 1 – Turkey pot pie with veggies, cranberry jello, garden salad, dessert, juice, milk
May 6 – Breakfast burrito, hash brown, fruit, sweet things, juice, milk
May 8 – Chicken/beef taco salad, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, cheese, cookies, sherbet, juice, milk
Just one last reminder – our regular Food Pantry is coming up on May 10, the Saturday just before Mother’s Day. (Have you planned something special for your mother yet?)
