|(Meridian, ID) While Governor Otter enthusiastically touts the fact that 76,000 people enrolled in the state operated federal healthcare exchange, he fails to mention that propping up Obamacare has meant at least 105,000 Idahoans lost their health insurance. On top of that, the governor fails to note that thousands of other Idahoans continue to see their premiums go through the roof.
But wait, there’s more: After promising to use Idaho vendors, the state operated federal exchange recently awarded a contract to California-based GetInsured to help on implementation and enrollment. It’s bad enough forcing Idahoans to enroll through the federal government, but when we do hire vendors, we look to companies from California? Didn’t the governor said this was an “Idaho exchange?”
Instead of propping up President Obama’s health exchanges with debt-laden federal grants, Senator Russ Fulcher has an alternative. Russ’s parallel track offers healthcare that is affordable, accessible, and superior in quality. By putting Idahoans in charge of their own healthcare with health savings accounts (HSAs) and High-Deductible Health Plans, by opening up competition, and by providing incentives and responsibility, Russ’ plan will save money, give people choice, put them in charge, and improve health outcomes. He’s already shown how we can save at least $35.5 million with our state employees. Best yet, Russ’s solutions are all Idaho based.
It’s really very simple. We can go down the road of “more of the same” – more propping up Obamacare, more federal control, more insurance policy cancellations, and more premium costs. Or, we can give people choice, give people control, and give people the better health outcomes they deserve with their hard-earned money. There is a better way, and Russ Fulcher has the solutions.
