To the Kuna School Board and Community,
I am writing to you on behalf of the Kuna School District. Dr. Margaret Mulhern and I are the external evaluators for the three LEP Enhancement Grants the district received for school years 2011-2014. One grant was to pilot implementation of the co-teaching model at several schools for the purpose of supporting English Language Learners. The State Department of Education has asked us to follow the process and implementation of the co-teaching model as well as to provide in-school technical support for teachers on the co-teaching grant teams and support and consult for the other two grants.
We have visited schools within the district frequently for the last year and have met with district administration regarding the grant plans and budgets many times.
As part of this process I have become quite familiar with the manner in which the school district administration manages their grant budgets and appropriation of related funds. It seemed pertinent at this time to notify the Kuna School Board and the community of the exceptional level of accountability the Kuna schools have demonstrated throughout the grant implementation process.
There are three specific areas in which Kuna schools have excelled. First, they have always utilized funding in a way that is directly aligned to district needs and well within compliance of grant guidelines. Secondly, the school district’s administration has always maintained the highest level of transparency in regards to their usage of grant funds and have consistently communicated with our grant monitoring team to ensure they are spending grant funds appropriately and effectively. Finally, the district has a tremendous record of maximizing funding and seeking ways to partner with neighboring districts to ensure they achieve maximum success in the most cost-efficient manner.
I hope you consider my comments throughout the discussion of future Kuna School District funding.
