Reports of a cougar attack several weeks ago south of town injuring a horse have been investigated by Idaho Fish and Game and have been found to offer no proof of a mountain lion in the area.
“At this point we don’t have anything to go on,” said Idaho Fish & Game’s Evin Oneale. “The wounds on the horse were in an odd spot for a lion attack.”
Oneale said that after receiving calls from the horse’s owner several weeks ago, IDFG sent an officer to investigate but found no tracks or other evidence suggesting a lion attack. The owner, who prefers to remain anonymous, had sent photos to IDFG of the horse’s wounds.
Oneale said that it doesn’t mean that a lion isn’t in the area but it is unlikely and they are classifying the case as an unknown. If any residents see a mountain lion in the area they are requested to call the Southwest Regional Office at 208-465-8465.
