Concerning the Ebola outbreak in western Africa: One has to admire Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol for voluntarily going to Africa to help the people afflicted with Ebola. I also presume they were cognizant of the risk and consequences of their actions. They have every right to make this decision. However, they do not have the right to make this decision for me and put me and my family at risk. I believe we all have the right to decide for ourselves. Particularly when you consider the recent breaches at the CDC. Each year when I get my flu shot they always hasten to tell me that it may not work on all strains or even the one it was developed for because viruses mutate. We all know Ebola is spread by contact; however, we are one mutation away from an air borne Ebola that would spread very rapidly. It could kill millions of Americans. We need quarantine protocols for not just Ebola but all deadly viruses. Brantly and Writebol should have been quarantined in Liberia. The 300 peace corp people should be quarantined in Africa for at least a month. Depending on the incubation period, quarantine times could vary. We need to do this now before it is too late. I urge all of you to call or write your senators and representatives and tell them to draft a quarantine bill now.
