I represent all the constituents in the zone who voted me in as their new board trustee, even those that did not vote for me. As with any elected office, there will be constituents who agree with the actions of their elected representatives and some who will not agree. But to make the claim that I do not represent them is false. To make that the one point for recall is false and dangerous.
My duty is to find balance between what the constituents want and what the school district needs, without overburdening taxpayers with excessive taxes. My opposition to the levy, is that taxpayers are paying excessive taxes, with Kuna paying more to its district than EVERY other district in the valley, particularly when nearly half of all students’ families are already struggling to make ends meet, not to mention seniors and farmers with large tracts of land, who cannot exempt but a small portion of the total value of their property and who will be hit the hardest with the taxes. No evidence was provided as to the district’s need, only to its wants. It is immoral to continue to force citizens to pay when a significant portion are struggling to simply make ends meet.
No trustee is bound to go along with the majority vote of the board. If elected officials at every level, trustees included, must support and work towards the acts of the majority of the other elected officials, not only will the rights of the minority go unheard and unrepresented but the tyranny of the majority will go unchecked. Moreover, representatives would be unnecessary. One representative for the whole district or one representative at every level of government would suffice. No elected official is bound to keep their opinions to themselves, even after the governing body makes a decision. In fact, you will find no evidence that any representative is bound to support a measure of any kind. In fact, many in the minority continue to work against measures and try to overturn them. If the will of the majority must be adhered to, why did we have a second levy vote? The governing body, the people, had already made their will known. The charges are petty charges. This was simply a temper tantrum from those who did not get what they wanted when they wanted it.
