An appeal by a Kuna resident on the approval of an Islamic cemetery in Ada County has initiated a public meeting to address comments. The Islamic Community of Bosniaks in Boise submitted a proposal that was approved by the county planning and zoning for a 10-acre cemetery at 15000 Cloverdale Road. The Kuna resident who filed the appeal with their letter addressed concerns about Islamic burial practices and worried that animals might dig up bodies there. Other concerns were that the cemetery would hurt the esthetic value of Kuna.
The county has said that the proposed burial practices do not violate any of Idaho’s regulations regarding cemeteries.
The cemetery is not located within Kuna city limits but is close to recently annexed land southeast of Kuna. There are only a few neighboring houses, as the land is mostly unused scrub brush. But the cemetery has riled up residents across southern Ada County.
The public meeting will be held at 6 p.m., September 10, in the Ada County Commissioners Main Hearing Room 1235 at 200 West Front Street in Boise.
